a novel by elizabeth.jenan-dickman
Widowed after two years of marriage Diane Parker
is pursued by a killer who is after something in her
possession. Diane flees to the vast California central
valley seeking anonymity and safety for herself and
her tiny daughter, but the people she loves begin to
disappear or mysteriously die.

Hidden away in this dusty town, she works as a
waitress in a truck stop serving sandwiches and pie
to the truckers that travel the back roads. A strange
woman appears every few weeks and sits alone in
the back booth, and they become friends. But when
Diane's last remaining friend suddenly dies she
looks for answers and discovers the woman is
secretly known as The Recruiter and is extremely
dangerous and on a ruthless mission and Diane is
on her list.

This story is fast paced and suspenseful, frequently
surprising the reader with sharp twists and
unexpected events. The characters that surround
Diane evolve in surprising directions leaving Diane
to wonder who she can trust, and when the show-
down comes she has only her old dog Bo to save her.

This was such a good book. I wasn't sure when I started to read it whether I would like it or not. It starts in the 1930's and I am just
not crazy about that time period. I believe that this book was labeled a mystery & it is but you need to know upfront that it is more
about the life of Diane Parker. If you really don't like a lot of details about someone's life in a murder mystery you might not like this
book. It may also be more for women and I am not so sure a man would enjoy it?

For those of you who love mystery books that are fast paced I just want to warn you that this story takes place over years. I don't
know how to describe the book other than to say it is a story about a young girl who is just defeated and down on her luck.
Through various trials she is able to overcome her hurdles along with avoiding being murdered. Diane is a character you are
rooting for and you want to see her succeed.

I would have liked to be given more info about her personally towards the end of the book. It seems that she is not the central
character which is understandable for reasons I won't say because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone. I was just used to
knowing what was going on in her mind and what she felt about a couple of people very close to her. Was she (emotionally) hurt
by someone who comes back into her life? There is a little about it but not too much and since Diane spent so much time looking
for this result I would have liked to know how she felt.

I look forward to reading anything else by this author. Great book!
